The Australian bush where homesteads with large verandahs wrapping around the entire weatherboard home are such an inspiration to me. My whole life I’ve had a love affair with the bush. When I was a kid my parents bought a farm in Wagga Wagga with a really original weatherboard home with the veranda that wraps around the entire place.
I long to one day buy a small bush block not a farm but maybe 5 or 10 acres and to build a modern version of the iconic Australian weatherboard home. It would be designed to heat and cool through passive means taking into account the orientation towards the sun, the slope of the block, and the climate. But I would still have that large timber verandah where I could enjoy my Country Style magazine and a glass of wine, winter or summer, rain or shine.
